Fairchild Briefs and Education Briefs Published Nov. 13, 2007 FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The following is a list of upcoming Fairchild events and other pertinent 92nd Air Refueling Wing information. Education briefs are located at the bottom of the page. Briefs Town Hall Meeting The Town Hall meeting previously scheduled for Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. has been rescheduled for a later date. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available. Deployed Spouses Dinner Fairchild's Top 3 organization, comprised of Airmen in the top three enlisted ranks, will host a dinner for the spouses of deployed members of Team Fairchild Nov. 16 in the base chapel beginning at 6 p.m. The theme for this dinner will be Italian. The menu for the event includes spaghetti, alfredo, garlic bread and salad, and there will be pizza available for the children. Tops in Blue Tops in Blue, the Air Force's expeditionary entertainment unit, is scheduled to perform at the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights, Wash., Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Tops in Blue is an all active-duty special unit comprised of 35 talented vocalists, musicians and dancers. The group's mission is to perform for military personnel and their families around the world. Toastmasters at Fairchild There will be a Fairchild Toastmasters interest meeting at Club Fairchild in the Fairchild Room on Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Toastmasters is a way to improve public speaking and leadership skills in a fun and supportive environment that fosters professional growth and personal achievement. 2007 Combined Federal Campaign drive Take this opportunity to help local Fairchild youth by donating to the Child Development Center or the Youth Center through the Combined Federal Campaign. Month of the Military Family The Airman and Family Readiness Center sponsors free weekly prize drawings during, November, the National Month of the Military Family. Bulk Item Pick-up There will be a bulk item pick up on base Nov. 14 at the Galena station, NCO Capehart, main base and survival dormitories. Items to be collected must be less than 10 feet long, less than 300 pounds and can't be hazardous. Items intended for Goodwill will also be collected but must be marked with "Goodwill." FunSpot Family Day Every Sunday in November, the FunSpot will host a FunSpot Famliy Day from 1 to 7 p.m. in recognition of Military Family Month. Bowling, shoe rental, miniature golf and the batting cages will all cost $1. Call the FunSpot at 247-2422 for more information. Blood Drive The Inland Northwest Blood Center will be conducting a blood drive in front of the base Exchange on Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Appointments are not required but if you would like to schedule an appointment, please email Master Sgt. Turkey Trot & Family Fitness Night at the Fitness Center Services will host a Turkey Trot and Family Fitness Night at the Fitness Center Nov. 14. The Turkey Trot is a distance challenge on the treadmill. Participants may run between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Family Fitness Night will be from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be fun events for the whole family featuring relay races, dodge ball, aerobics, Four-Square, prizes and T-shirts. Call 247-2791 for information. Palace Chase briefing There will be a briefing on the Palace Chase program Nov. 15 at 12:30 p.m. in the MPF conference room, Bldg. 2245, room 227A. This briefing is open to all ranks and will include information about the Palace Chase program, an early release program which allows active duty personnel to transfer to the Air Force Reserve before their established date of separation, general information about the benefits of the Air Force Reserve, and will include a tutorial on the brand new "Virtual Application" process. Anyone interested in either Palace Chase, or the Air Force Reserve is encouraged to attend. Turkey Bowl at the FunSpot The FunSpot will host a Turkey Bowl Nov. 1-16 Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bowl a game during any open bowling time and the top five scores will receive a turkey at the end of the competition. Airman and Family Readiness Center changes The Discovery Center, a computer resources room in the Airman & Family Readiness Center, will be closed until further notice due to repairs to our computers. The A&FRC is now 90 percent complete with building carpeting and is now open for full business. This includes the Airman's Attic and Loan Closet. We would like to thank everyone for supporting us during our building re-carpeting. Thanksgiving at the dining facilities Fairchild's leadership will be serving Thanksgiving meals to all military, retirees and families Nov. 22. Information Technology and Trade Show The will be an Information Technology/Trade Show, hosted by the 92nd Communications Squadron, at the Club Fairchild on Nov. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event will have major technology companies demonstrating the latest, fastest and "best of show" computers, related hardware and accessories. These shows are the perfect forum for IT users, buyers and planners to discuss requirements and future IT challenges with knowledgeable Federal Sales Representatives. This event is free and open to everyone. There will be catering provided during the event. Fall Education Fair There will be a Fall Education Fair at the base Education Center and Library Nov. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fair is open to military personnel and civilians and will include a Troops to Teachers briefing from 8 to 9 a.m. and a Montgomery GI Bill and VA briefing from 10 to 11 a.m. Both briefings will be held in Room 113. Various educational representatives from the local community and beyond will be present. Club Fairchild membership drive Club Fairchild is holding a membership drive through Dec. 31. Squadrons will receive credit for each new squadron member, military or civilian, who signs up at the Club Fairchild cash cage. The three squadrons with the highest percentages of new members during the drive receive a $700, a $500 and a $300 voucher respectively for a squadron function held at Club Fairchild. AADD looking for volunteers Airman Against Drunk Driving is looking for volunteers to fill treasurer and secretary positions. Undergraduate Flying Training The next Undergraduate Flying Training selection board will convene at the Air Force Personnel Center Jan. 8. This selection board will review active duty applications for selection to pilot, CSO and air battle manager training. Those officers with a date of birth after April 1, 1978, and a TFCSD after April 1, 2003, who meet all other eligibility criteria, will be eligible to apply for UFT. Applicants must send the completed application postmarked by Nov. 26 to: HQ AFPC/DPAOT3 550 C Street West Suite 31 Randolph AFB, TX 78150-4733 Applicants are responsible for advising commanders and supervisors providing AF Form 215 comments of the application deadline. Park University -Park University's Fairchild Campus Center will be offering the Writing Competency Test Nov. 13, 20 and 27; and Dec. 4. Students should sign up at least two terms prior to taking EN306/CJ441/CJ450. A passing WCT score is a prerequisite to register for EN306/CJ441/CJ450 and also a graduation requirement. The WCT results will not be available until at least three weeks after test date. Failure to comply with this requirement could delay graduation because the requirement will not be waived. Call 244-2020 to schedule an appointment to take the WCT. -Park University students receiving Pell Grants or student loans, please be aware the process of dropping a class may change your eligibility for them. If Park is required to return a portion of an amount already awarded, the student will be responsible for any balance resulting from the return of the loan or grant money. Before dropping classes, please check with Student Financial Services to determine if your loan or grant eligibility will be affected. If not, the consortium/visiting student agreement will not be processed. Southern Illinois University Southern Illinois University Carbondale offers an accelerated-format Bachelor of Science degree program at Fairchild. The program allows students to complete their major in one year, with an alternating weekend schedule. No associate degree is required to start the program, and up to 44 semester hours can be granted for work experience and technical training. Full financial assistance is available to qualified students. Earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Workforce Education and Development. Classes begin Jan. 12.
