IPTV debuts at Fairchild Published Nov. 15, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Larry W. Carpenter Jr. 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The 92nd Communications Squadron and the 92nd Air Refueling Wing public affairs office have released the new internet protocol television service base wide. This new service will provide a substitute for cable television for providing a number of stations directly to a user's computer. This will allow members of Team Fairchild ready access to information in regards to events taking place that affect Fairchild, as well as providing them the opportunity to view locally generated stories. "IPTV saves the base money, as well as allows for the distribution of information to be available at the fingertips of the men and women of Fairchild," said Tech. Sgt. Ronald VanAusdal, 92nd ARW NCOIC of public affairs. "IPTV is an excellent tool for information distribution," said Sergeant VanAusdal. "It's now possible for our guys to shoot a story, edit the footage and have it posted for the base to see very rapidly." The channels currently available include the new and improved commander's access channel, as well as two local news stations, three national news stations and a weather channel. "The new IPTV service provides the public affairs office an additional avenue to get the commander's message out to the base populous," said Capt. Jason McCree, 92nd ARW public affairs officer. "The new product allows us to add video stories and voice over slides to the commanders access channel." This new visually-pleasing form of the commander's access channel will promote readership and aid in the dissemination of information, from the top of the chain down to the lowest-ranking Airmen. "It's great to have an opportunity to showcase the talents of the videographers through the display of their locally-generated stories," said Sergeant VanAusdal. "This provides the rest of the base an opportunity to see what these guys do, day-to-day." This new product is a first for Fairchild. The change will not only provide everyone on base with access to a government computer the ability to view these resources, but it also saves the base money by reducing the funding required to provide cable for the base. "We look forward to the continued effort to improve the IPTV system to ensure we are producing the best product that we can," said Captain McCree.
