Dec. 14: MADD Candlelight Vigil
Mothers against Drunk Driving is hosting a candlelight vigil Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. in the public safety building at 1100 W. Mallon in Spokane. The event will provide a moment to remember lives lost and changes as a result of drunken driving. In conjunction with the candlelight vigil, Spokane's Night of 1,000 Stars will be revealed, symbolized the badges worn by the many patrol officers that will be on duty during the annual campaign. The purpose of this effort is to remove drinking drivers from our roads.

Jan. 17: Tops in Blue
Tops in Blue, the Air Force's expeditionary entertainment unit, is scheduled to perform at the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights, Wash., Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Tops in Blue is an all active-duty special unit comprised of 35 talented vocalists, musicians and dancers.

Dec. 7: Flu shots available
Flu shots will be available to servicemembers on Dec. 7 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at three locations - the 92nd Medical Group clinic, Deel Community Center and Building 2050.

Dec. 7: Winter Camp Registration
Registration for Winter Camp will be open until Dec. 7 at the Youth Center. The camp runs from Dec. 19 - Jan. 2 and is available to first through sixth grade children of active duty, reserve, guard or civilians. The fee for the camp is based on total family income. Contact the Youth Center at 247-5601 for more information.

Dec. 7-8: Annual Bazaar
The Deel Community Center will hold its Annual Bazaar Dec. 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entrance to the Bazaar is free. There will be hot dogs or chili dogs, chips and soda for lunch. The cost for the meal is $3. Contact the Deel Community Center at 247-2619 for more information.

Dec. 8: Ski getaway deadline
The Outdoor Recreation Connection is offering a Ski Get Away to Schweitzer Ski Resort. The trip includes a three night stay Jan. 18-20 with discounts on rooms, lift tickets and ski rentals. The resort has ski-in and ski-out access and outstanding lodging accommodations on the mountain. The deadline to register is Dec. 8. Call Ryan Murphy at 247-2511 for pricing and to make your reservation.

Dec. 8, 15: Beginning picture framing
There will be beginning picture frame classes Dec. 8 and 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Arts and Crafts center. The cost for the class is $48. Call the Arts and Crafts at 247-2810 for more information.

Dec. 9: Children's Christmas Party
There will be a free Children's Christmas Party Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring a pancake breakfast, crafts and photos with Santa Claus. Reservations are required for this event. To make reservations or for more information contact Club Fairchild at 244-3622.

Dec. 11: Arts and Crafts Class
Head to Arts and Crafts to make a stained glass glitter card Dec. 11 from 12:30 - 3 p.m. The cost for the class varies based on the materials. Call Arts and Crafts at 247-2810 for more information.

Dec. 10-11: Holiday Carolers
The Band of the Golden West Holiday Carolers, made of four singers and a guitar player, will visit Team Fairchild and Spokane Dec. 10-11. The carolers can be seen on the KHQ morning show Dec. 10 and will perform at various locations in Spokane throughout the day. They will also perform at various locations at Fairchild on Dec. 11, including child development center, Michael Anderson Elementary School, the Base Exchange and the Warrior Dining Facility at noon.

Dec. 12: AADD meeting
There will be an Airman against Drunk Driving meeting Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. in the Cyber Café. Entering one of the busiest times of the year, AADD we will be looking at the volunteer list to ensure there are enough phone operators and drivers for the month.

Dec. 13: ORC Ski Trip to 49 Degrees deadline
Sign up through the Outdoor Recreation Connection by Dec. 13 for a ski trip to 49 Degrees North Dec. 15. For the ride and gear rental the cost is $10, and $15 without the gear rental. Lift Tickets for 49 Degrees North range from $25 to $33 at the Outdoor Rec. Call 247-2511 for reservations and for more information.

Dec. 14: Santa Lock-Up
The Defenders Association will host a Santa Lock-up fundraiser Dec. 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Start now by contacting Staff Sgt. Oscar Hernandez e-mailing him at oscar.hernandez@fairchild.af.mil or calling the Santa Hot Line at 247-5901. "Arrest" requests can be made beginning Dec. 10 at 7:30 a.m. The lock-up warrants will be served Dec. 14 and individuals will be taken into custody, so have your cameras ready. The fundraiser will benefit Operation Warmheart and the Defenders Association.

Education Briefs

Park University
-Park University students receiving Pell Grants or student loans, please be aware the process of dropping a class may change your eligibility for them. Before dropping classes, please check with Student Financial Services to determine if your loan or grant eligibility will be affected. For information call 244-2020.

-All consortiums and visiting student agreements must be approved by the host institution Registrar and home institution Registrar and received in the Student Financial Services Office, Park University before the beginning of the term for which aid is being requested. Students are also responsible for ensuring the Registrar at the host institution completes and forwards the form in a timely manner. Call 244-2020 for information.

Southern Illinois University
Southern Illinois University Carbondale offers an accelerated-format Bachelor of Science degree program at Fairchild. No associate degree is required to start the program, and up to 44 semester hours can be granted for work experience and technical training. Earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Workforce Education and Development. Classes begin Jan. 12. Call 244-3356 or 244-3789 for information.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, and non-degree certificate of completion programs. The courses in aviation and aerospace can be completed in a classroom setting or online. Embry-Riddle's Spokane Campus classes start Jan. 7 with the registration and add/drop period running from Dec. 10 -Jan. 11.
