Dec. 14: MADD Candlelight Vigil
Mothers against Drunk Driving is hosting a candlelight vigil Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. in the public safety building at 1100 W. Mallon in Spokane. The event will provide a moment to remember lives lost and changes as a result of drunken driving. In conjunction with the candlelight vigil, Spokane's Night of 1,000 Stars will be revealed, symbolized the badges worn by the many patrol officers that will be on duty during the annual campaign. The purpose of this effort is to remove drinking drivers from our roads.

Jan. 17: Tops in Blue
Tops in Blue, the Air Force's expeditionary entertainment unit, is scheduled to perform at the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights, Wash., Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Tops in Blue is an all active-duty special unit comprised of 35 talented vocalists, musicians and dancers.

Upcoming Events Dec. 12 - Dec. 19:

Dec. 12: AADD meeting
There will be an Airman against Drunk Driving meeting Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. in the Cyber Café. Entering one of the busiest times of the year, AADD we will be looking at the volunteer list to ensure there are enough phone operators and drivers for the month.

Dec. 13: ORC Ski Trip to 49 Degrees deadline
Sign up through the Outdoor Recreation Connection by Dec. 13 for a ski trip to 49 Degrees North Dec. 15. For the ride and gear rental the cost is $10, and $15 without the gear rental. Lift Tickets for 49 Degrees North range from $25 to $33 at the Outdoor Rec. Call 247-2511 for reservations and for more information.

Dec. 14: Santa Lock-Up
The Defenders Association will host a Santa Lock-up fundraiser Dec. 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Start now by contacting Staff Sgt. Oscar Hernandez e-mailing him at oscar.hernandez@fairchild.af.mil or calling the Santa Hot Line at 247-5901. "Arrest" requests can be made beginning Dec. 10 at 7:30 a.m. The lock-up warrants will be served Dec. 14 and individuals will be taken into custody, so have your cameras ready. The fundraiser will benefit Operation Warmheart and the Defenders Association.

Dec. 15: Beginning picture framing
There will be beginning picture frame classes Dec. 8 and 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Arts and Crafts center. The cost for the class is $48. Call the Arts and Crafts at 247-2810 for more information.

Dec. 16: Kayaking class
The Outdoor Recreation Connection will hold a kayaking class at the Aquatic Center Dec. 16. The cost is $20 and includes the use of a kayak, paddle and safety gear. Call 247-2511 for more information.

Dec. 17: Holiday Card Contest
Judging for the Holiday Card Contest will take place on Dec. 17. Winners will be announced at Dec 19. First place will receive $100 Services Bucks, second place will receive $50 Services Bucks and third place $25 Services Bucks. Cards will be on display through Jan. 3.

Dec. 18: ORC Ski Trip to Schweitzer deadline
Sign up through the Outdoor Recreation Connection by Dec. 18 for a ski trip to Schweitzer Mountain Dec. 20. For the ride and gear rental the cost is $10, and $15 without the gear rental. Base access for foreign nationals
All foreign nationals must go through the foreign disclosure system prior to gaining access to a military installation. The process requires a sponsor for the guest. Also, foreign nationals must contact the foreign disclosure officer and fill out the required documentation which is sent to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations detachment and the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. A background check will be done and the wing commander will approve or disapprove the request. This process takes no less than two weeks. Please plan accordingly for hosting future guests at the base. For more information contact the foreign disclosure officer, Bo Smith, at 247-2127.

In case of inclement weather
Reminders, advisements and warnings are being spread throughout the region with winter weather on its way. In the case of inclement weather this winter, call 247-5100 for base information regarding closures and manning issues.

Scholarship for Military Children
The Scholarships for Military Children awards hundreds of scholarships to qualified seniors planning to enroll in a four-year program of studies the following fall, or to college students already enrolled in a four-year program. At least one $1,500 scholarship is awarded at every commissary location with a qualified applicant. Additional information may be found at http://www.militaryscholar.org or www.commissaries.com. Applications must be returned to a commissary by close of business Feb. 20, 2008.

APF Funding
Wing, group and squadron official functions held at the club may be eligible for APF support. Contact the 92nd Air Refueling Wing protocol office at 247-2127 to see if your unit qualifies.
