Fairchild Briefs and Education Briefs Published Jan. 3, 2008 FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The following is a list of upcoming Fairchild events and other pertinent 92nd Air Refueling Wing information. Coming soon: Jan. 17: Tops in Blue Tops in Blue, the Air Force's expeditionary entertainment unit, is scheduled to perform at the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights, Wash., Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Tops in Blue is an all active-duty special unit comprised of 35 talented vocalists, musicians and dancers. Upcoming Events Jan. 4 - Jan. 11: January: Wood Working classes Wood Working I, II, and III classes will begin in January. The classes give you the opportunity to start with the basics and finish with advanced wood working. Classes qualify to go toward the Adult Woodshop Degree. Call 247-5189 for more information. Jan. 4: Club Fairchild Membership Grand Finale Party and Family Night Club Fairchild will host a Grand Finale Part and Family Night at the club Jan. 4 beginning at 4: 30 p.m. There will be a free all-you-can-eat Mexican buffet for new and existing members. Jan. 5: Veterans Assistance Information Fair The Washington Department of Veterans Affairs and Washington National Guard is sponsoring a Veterans Assistance Information Fair Jan. 5 at the Deel Community Center from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This event will consist of information booths with various agency representatives available to provide customers with assistance. All military and veterans organizations are welcome to participate. Jan. 9: Christmas tree disposal When the holidays are over, military family housing residents can dispose of their Christmas tree by placing them out on the curbside on Jan. 2 or Jan. 9. The tree should not be bagged, cannot have any decorations, tinsel or artificial snow covering attached, and the tree stand must be removed. The housing residents may also cut up the tree and put it in their furnished compost bin, which will be emptied during the Christmas tree pick up. Jan. 11: Heart Link There will be a Heart Link class Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Club Fairchild. Heart Link is a class that strives to strengthen military families and enhance mission readiness. Spouses will learn about the Air Force mission, military customs, traditions and protocol, as well as support resources and services available to them. Free lunch and child care will be provided but advanced class registration is required to project resources needed. For more information call the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 247-2246. Ongoing Events: Auto Hobby New Hours of Operation The Auto Hobby Center now has new hours of operation. They will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will be closed Sunday and Monday. Call 247-2310 for more information. In case of inclement weather Reminders, advisements and warnings are being spread throughout the region with winter weather on its way. Education Briefs Study skills class The study skills class is designed for military, civilians and dependents returning to college after a long absence. The class introduces individuals to time management, memory, reading for comprehension and test taking tips. Classes are scheduled for Jan. 9, Feb. 6 and March 5 at the base Education Center in Room 113 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Reservations are necessary. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, and non-degree certificate of completion programs. The courses can be completed in a classroom setting or online. Campus classes start Jan. 7 with the registration and add/drop period running from Dec. 10 -Jan. 11. Park University - On-site and Internet classes for Spring I will begin Jan. 14. Registration is in progress for both online and onsite courses. Be sure to register early for Internet courses. If the student decides to purchase their textbooks via another source, then Park cannot assist them if they should happen to encounter any problems. Park's virtual bookstore will open 3-4 weeks prior to the start of classes. - Park's Online Learning program has seven Bachelor of Science Degree Completion Programs online and over 250 internet courses offered each term. The online learning environment allows students to go to class when and where their schedules permit.
