2nd Harvest Inland Northwest
More than 100 volunteers are needed for the 14th Annual "Taking a Bite out of Hunger" food and beverage tasting and auction to benefit Spokane's 2nd Harvest Inland Northwest's food bank, May 21, at the Spokane Arena.

With an expected attendance of 800, there are many tasks available including set-up, auction support, restaurant/winery support, bussing tables, clean-up and breakdown.

To volunteer for "Taking a Bite out of Hunger," contact Emily Huttinger at 247-5935; Master Sgt. David Hall at 247-4287; or Tech Sgt. Melva Stith at 244-9346.

Second Harvest distributes more than 1 million pounds of donated food each month to more than 300 neighborhood food banks and meal centers.

Big Brothers Big Sisters
Michael Anderson Elementary School is looking for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, men and women who are free to spend one hour per week during lunch with a child at the school. They would have lunch together and be with them at recess. Consistency is critical for children as they become very attached to their big brother or sister. The school understands there are times when a big brother or sister may be gone out of town or other setbacks, but will work around this.

Applications are available at the school. Volunteers will be screened by Big Brothers, Big Sisters and an interview would be scheduled. For information call Cheryl Stitt at 565-3604.
