Retiree will service resumes Published March 11, 2008 92nd Air Refueling Wing staff judge advocate FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The Fairchild Legal office reinstated its retiree legal assistance services Feb. 27 with an entire day devoted to retirees and their dependents. "It was incredibly successful, with a limited staff of attorneys assisting twenty clients at a savings of approximately $12,000," said Capt Vicki Marcus, chief of legal assistance. "All of our feedback from the clients was positive, and we hope to be able to assist even more clients in the future as staffing permits." Retiree Will Day has been modified from its previous formats, and will now be held once a month on an appointment-only basis. The dates will vary each month, as the legal office must consider many manning factors, including trials, deployments and TDYs. The program is an excellent opportunity to pay back veterans for their service by providing peace of mind in the form of end-of-life documents. The legal office provides wills, durable health care powers of attorney, special and general POAs, and living wills, depending on client needs. Due to the high volume of retirees in the greater Spokane area and the limited numbers of attorneys and paralegals assigned to Fairchild, the legal office is only able to provide will and POA services on Retiree Will Day. No other legal assistance services are available for retirees at this time. The legal office also provides legal assistance services for active-duty military members and their dependents on a wide variety of non-criminal matters. The hours for standard legal assistance for these individuals are Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. - 9 a.m., on a walk-in basis. For more information or to make an appointment, please contact the base legal office at (509) 247-2838 or DSN 657-2838.
