Volunteer Opportunities Published April 17, 2008 FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Taking a Bite out of Hunger Help Second Harvest fight hunger and feed hope by volunteering for the 2008 Taking a Bite out of Hunger May 21 at the Spokane Arena. This event features a live and silent auction, as well as vendors from area restaurants, wineries and breweries. With more than 800 guests in attendance, there are numerous volunteer tasks including set-up, auction support, restaurant/winery support, bussing tables, clean-up, breakdown, etc. There are a variety of two- to four-hour shifts running from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. More than 100 volunteers are needed to make this event a great success. Mobius Kids Children's Museum Mobius Kids Children's Museum needs assistance with removing and loading their traveling exhibit from the museum floor to a delivery truck. Volunteers will need to be able to do heavy lifting. Several volunteers are needed to help us with this project. This opportunity is at Mobius Kids, 808 W. Big Brothers, Big Sisters Michael Anderson Elementary School is looking for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, men and women who are free to spend one hour per week during lunch with a child at the school. They would have lunch together and be with them at recess. Consistency is critical for children, as they become very attached to their big brother or sister. The school understands there are times when a Big Brother or Big Sister may be gone out of town or other setbacks, but will work around this. Applications are available at the school. Lilac Festival and the Armed Forces Torchlight parade Parade organizers are looking for 56 volunteers for this year's Lilac Festival and the Armed Forces Torchlight parade. Seven officers and 49 Airmen are needed to work as Corner Cadre. As a Corner Cadre you will ensure spectators stay out of the parade route as well as provide a 'military face' to the community. Big Brothers, Big Sisters Bowl for Kid's Sake Event The Company Grade Officers Council is in need of volunteers to be squadron points of contact for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Bowl for Kid's Sake event May 30. This is the 10th year the event will be held at Fairchild and they are looking to improve upon their efforts from previous years. The role of the POC is to sign up team captains in your squadrons who then form teams and collect donations. All the money raised through this event stays in the local area and directly benefits kids on base and in Spokane. All those interested in volunteering can email Capt.
