Highlighted Events:

April 25: Arbor Day Ceremony and Tree Planting Ceremony
Fairchild will be honored as a Tree City USA Community again this year. The National Arbor Day Foundation and the Washington Department of Natural Resources will present an award to Fairchild on April 25 at 1 p.m. in a ceremony to be held in Miller Park. Fairchild Airmen will plant five trees at Miller Park immediately after the ceremony in celebration of this honor.

April 25: Funspot Friday Night Frenzy

The Funspot will host Friday Night Frenzy April 25 from 4-10 p.m. Bowling, skating, miniature golf, pool tables and batting cages will be at your service for $5. Deployed spouses and their children get in free; children four and under are free. Call 244-3622 for more information.

April 25: Enlisted Sports Club Grand Opening
Show off your best sports attire at the Club Fairchild April 25 starting at 4:30 p.m. during a ribbon-cutting ceremony and name unveiling of the newly remodeled Enlisted Sports Club formerly known as Hollywood North. The event is free and will include sports games, give-a-ways, chili dogs and nachos. Stick around for the second half of the event and party with a DJ at 8 p.m. Members get in free and non-members pay $5 at the door. For more information please call Club Fairchild at 244-3622.

April 29: Grand Opening of the Oasis
The new Family Oasis located inside the Deel Community Center will open with a ribbon cutting ceremony April 29 at 1 p.m. The Oasis will be open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and will be a comfortable place for spouses and children to meet others and form relationships. May 1: Volunteer Recognition Luncheon
A volunteer recognition luncheon will take place at Club Fairchild May 1 at 11 a.m.

April 28: Basic communications
The base education center is offering a course in basic communications in room 103 April 28 from 8 -10 a.m. This course is available to all military and civilian personnel interested in the basic skills to effectively communicate in the military work environment. April 29: Conflict management
The base education center is offering a course in conflict management in Room 105 from April 29 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. This course is available to all military and civilian personnel interested in understanding conflict management styles and the vital role of communication. Study Skills Class
This seminar is designed for those returning to school after a long absence. The primary focus is to introduce students to time-management skills. Other modules include memory, reading for comprehension and test-taking tips. Students will also assess their learning style, establish goals and make a study calendar. Classes are held Wednesdays, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Call 247-2348 to register.

Park University
- Effective July 1, Park will no longer transfer in History classes as Humanities credits. Instead, History credits will be given as Social Science credits. Call 244-2020 for information.

- Park University offers a 15-credit hour scholarship for non-military spouses and dependents of active-duty personnel. If you have been a Park student for one year or less at the time of application, or will become a student in the 2008 - 2009 school year, with a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0 or higher, you may be eligible. Application deadline is April 15. For more information call the Park University office at 244-2020.

- Park University - Fairchild Campus Center will be offering the Writing Competency Test on April 15, 22 and 29; May 13, 20 and 27; and also on June 3, 10, 17 and 24. Students should sign up at least two terms prior to taking EN306/CJ441/CJ450. A passing WCT score is a prerequisite to register for EN306/CJ441/CJ450 and a graduation requirement. The WCT results will not be available until at least three weeks after test date. Failure to comply with this requirement could delay graduation because the requirement will not be waived. Please call the Fairchild Campus Center at 244-2020 to schedule an appointment to take the mandatory WCT.

Southern Illinois University
Retiring from the military soon? A Bachelor of Science Degree will help you start a new career and validate the work experience you've accumulated while in the military.
Southern Illinois University offers an accelerated one-year format for completion of a major, as well as an alternating weekend class schedule designed for the working adult with one to two weekends per month. No associate degree is required to enter the program. Up to 44 semester hours may be granted for work experience and technical training (equal to 14 plus college courses). Civilians are welcome, and financial assistance and veterans affairs benefits are available to qualified students. Classes begin May 3.
