Highlighted Events: May 5: Operation Purple Lazy-F Camp Operation Purple Lazy-F Camp is open to military children with parents who have, will or are currently deployed. To register online go to www.operationpurple.org. June 28-29: Spokane Hoopfest '08 More than 3,000 volunteers are needed to make the Hoopfest tournament a success and they are now taking names. There are numerous opportunities at Hoopfest; the most crucial volunteer is the Hoopfest Court Monitor. May 2: Communications Focal Point ribbon cutting The ribbon cutting for the Communications Focal Point will be held May 2 at 1 p.m. in Bldg. 2040. May 3: Recycling contest The Recycling Center is sponsoring a recycling contest May 3. From 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. students of Michael Anderson Elementary School students and their parents can bring recyclable items to the Recycling Center. May 11: Mother's Day Brunch A Mother's Day brunch will be held at Club Fairchild May 11 from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. There will be two drawings for special Mother's Day baskets. Members pay just $17.95, non-members pay $20.95, children 5 - 10 years old will be charged $7.50 and children 4 and under eat free. Education Briefs: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Registration for the summer semester starts May 5 and runs through May 16. Classes offered include Macroeconomics and Human Factors in Aviation Safety. The graduate class this semester will be the Air Transportation System, a core class for the Master of Science degree. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offers bachelor's and master's degree programs and an AMT Type 65 certificate for those seeking a Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license. Study Skills Class This seminar is designed for those returning to school after a long absence. The primary focus is to introduce students to time-management skills. Other modules include memory, reading for comprehension and test-taking tips. Students will also assess their learning style, establish goals and make a study calendar. Classes are scheduled July 9, Aug. 13 and Sept. 10. Park University - Effective July 1, Park will no longer transfer in History classes as Humanities credits. Instead, History credits will be given as Social Science credits. Call 244-2020 for information. - Park University offers a 15-credit-hour scholarship for non-military spouses and dependents of active-duty personnel. For more information call the Park University office at 244-2020. - Park University - Fairchild Campus Center will offer the Writing Competency Test May 13, 20 and 27; and June 3, 10, 17 and 24. Students should sign up at least two terms prior to taking EN306/CJ441/CJ450. A passing WCT score is a prerequisite to register for EN306/CJ441/CJ450 and a graduation requirement. The WCT results will not be available until at least three weeks after test date. Failure to comply with this requirement could delay graduation because the requirement will not be waived. Please call the Fairchild Campus Center at 244-2020 to schedule an appointment to take the mandatory WCT. - On-site and Internet classes for summer (Term V) will begin June 2. Registration is in progress for both online and onsite courses. Be sure to register early for Internet classes. Southern Illinois University Southern Illinois University offers an accelerated one-year format for completion of a major, as well as an alternating weekend class schedule designed for the working adult with one to two weekends per month. No associate degree is required to enter the program. Up to 44 semester hours may be granted for work experience and technical training (equal to 14 or more college courses). Civilians are welcome, and financial assistance and veterans affairs benefits are available to qualified students. Classes begin May 3.
