Highlighted Events: June 28 - 29: Spokane Hoopfest '08 More than 3,000 volunteers are needed to make the Hoopfest tournament a success, and the committee is now taking names. There are numerous opportunities at Hoopfest; the most crucial volunteer is the Hoopfest Court Monitor. Hoopfest will honor a two-day commitment as a Court Monitor with NIKE shorts, shoes, monitor T-shirt and hat. To register visit www.spokanehoopfest.net or download the application form. The refill pharmacy located between the Base Exchange and the Commissary will be open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. May 23 and closed May 24 - 26. May 23 - 26: MPF and Finance closure The Military Personnel Flight and Finance will be closed May 23 - 26 for Wing Family Day and Memorial Day. May 26: Memorial Day ceremony Fairchild is hosting a Memorial Day ceremony at Fort George Wright cemetery May 26 at 9 a.m. Fairchild personnel are encouraged to attend. May 27: 92nd MSG Change of Command Colonel Claude Van Fuller Jr. will relinquish command to Colonel Suzanne Filion during the 92nd Mission Support Group change of command ceremony at 2 p.m. May 27. The event will take place on the parade field across from Wing Headquarters. May 27: Base power outages There will be a short power outage May 27 that will affect all of Fairchild. The power outage will occur between 6 - 6:15 a.m. and will last less than 15 seconds. William Moncrease 93 Airman 1st Class Danielle Gadeberg 96 SCOPE Basic and Citizens-On-Patrol certification class Fairchild's next Sheriff Community Oriented Policing Effort Basic and Citizens-On-Patrol certification class will be held in the 92nd Security Forces classroom 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. May 20. This class will certify attendees to be volunteers for the Spokane County Sheriff's Department. Upon completion you will receive a Sheriff's Office Photo identification card to be used as credentials when you are performing SCOPE-related duties. You must register prior to attending the course. Conflict Management Class This class is for those interested in understanding conflict management styles and the vital role of communication. The class is open to all military and civilian members. Listening Skills This class is for those interested in learning the essentials of listening skills, saving time and resources, and avoiding challenges by using better communication skills. Study Skills Class This seminar is designed for those returning to school after a long absence. The primary focus is to introduce students to time-management skills. Other modules include memory, reading for comprehension and test-taking tips. Students will also assess their learning styles, establish goals and make a study calendar. Classes are scheduled July 9, Aug. 13 and Sept. 10. Interpersonal Relationships Class This class involves creating relationships that allow a productive workplace. The class is open to all military and civilian members. Military Personnel 1.0 This class involves the latest enlisted and officer personnel systems and processes. The class is open to all military and civilian supervisors. Class is scheduled 8 - noon June 27 at the Base Education Center in room 105. Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to the top 25 entries. To enter, write a 500-word, or less, essay on the topic: "The most important person in my life." Submit the entry to Club Fairchild no later than July 1; only one essay per eligible person will be accepted. Final scholarship awards will be announced by Sept. 19. For more information call 244-3622. Register for Community Colleges of Spokane classes Fairchild Spring II 2008 classes began May 19. General education and math lab classes are offered. Register early to ensure class availability. To schedule an advising appointment or speak to a counselor, call 533-8937. For GED, high school completion and English as a Second Language classes call 533-4600. Park University - Effective July 1, Park will no longer transfer in History classes as Humanities credits. Instead, History credits will be given as Social Science credits. Call 244-2020 for information. - Park University offers a 15-credit-hour scholarship for non-military spouses and dependents of active-duty personnel. For more information call the Park University office at 244-2020. - Park University, Fairchild Campus Center will offer the Writing Competency Test May 27, and June 3, 10, 17 and 24. Students should sign up at least two terms prior to taking EN306/CJ441/CJ450. A passing WCT score is a prerequisite to register for EN306/CJ441/CJ450 and a graduation requirement. The WCT results will not be available until at least three weeks after test date. Failure to comply with this requirement could delay graduation because the requirement will not be waived. Call the Fairchild Campus Center at 244-2020 to schedule an appointment to take the mandatory WCT. - On-site and Internet classes for summer (Term V) begin June 2. Registration is in progress for both online and onsite courses. Be sure to register early for Internet classes.
