Defense travel System changes Published May 29, 2008 By Nicholas Johnson 92nd Logistics Readiness Squadron passenger travel FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- In a memorandum dated May 12, Secretary of the Air Force Michael W. Wynne and U.S. Air Force chief of staff General T. Michael Moseley have mandated the use of the Government Travel Card for all official government travel. The mandate is in response to the excess costs involved in centrally billing official government travel in the Defense Travel System. This policy will remain in effect until superseded by official Air Force instruction(s). Public law requires all Department of Defense personnel to use the GTC for all expenses arising from official government travel unless otherwise exempted (i.e. new recruits, invitational travel, etc.) effective immediately. The GTC will be used for all authorized travel expenses during temporary duty, deployment, and permanent change of station travel. This also includes cash advances via the GTC in lieu of travel advances processed through the base level financial services office. Upon completion of Collective Bargaining requirements, this policy will also apply to bargaining unit employees.
