Highlighted Events: June 28-29: Spokane Hoopfest '08 More than 3,000 volunteers are needed to make the Hoopfest tournament a success and they are now taking names. There are numerous opportunities at Hoopfest; the most crucial volunteer is the Hoopfest Court Monitor. Hoopfest will honor a two-day commitment as a Court Monitor with NIKE shorts, shoes, monitor t-shirt, and hat. To register visit www.spokanehoopfest.net or download the application form. There will be refreshments and games. For more information call 247-2619. June 13: End of School Summer Celebration The Funspot is hosting an end-of-school celebration from 4 - 10 p.m. June 13. Bowling, skating, miniature-golf and batting cages will be available to school age-children for $1 per game. For more information call 247-2422. June 14: Outdoor pool opens The outdoor pool at 200 East Castle Street opens June 14. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 1 - 5 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday from noon - 5 p.m. Cost is $1.50 per person, per visit. For more information call 247-2242. June 15: Father's Day Brunch at Club Fairchild Club Fairchild is hosting a Father's Day brunch from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. June 15. Prime Rib, lunch items, an omelet station and dessert bar will be available. Price for members is $17.95 and $20.95 for non-members. Pre-pay by June 6 and fathers are free, Children ages 5 - 10 eat for $7.50, and ages 4 and under are free. Call Club Fairchild at 244-3622 for more information or for reservations June 16: Missoula Children's Theater auditions Auditions for the Missoula Children's Theater are at 1:30 p.m. June 16 at the Deel Community Center. All youth ages 5 - 18 are invited to participate. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. June 20 and 3 p.m. June 21. Tickets will be $1 at the door or a donation of three cans of food which will be donated to a local food bank. For more information call 247-5601. Study Skills Class This seminar is designed for those returning to school after a long absence. The primary focus is to introduce students to time-management skills. Other modules include memory, reading for comprehension and test-taking tips. Students will also assess their learning styles, establish goals and make a study calendar. Classes are scheduled July 9, Aug. 13 and Sept. 10. Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to the top 25 entries. To enter, write a 500-word, or less, essay on the topic: "The most important person in my life." Submit the entry to Club Fairchild no later than July 1; only one essay per eligible person will be accepted. Final scholarship awards will be announced by Sept. 19. A committee (consisting of the Academic Director, Campus Center Director and faculty members) chooses one or two outstanding graduate(s) based on scholastic excellence and community involvement. This year's outstanding graduate recipients for Fairchild Campus Center are Rene Stoick and Master SSgt Andrew Bistarkey Jr. Ms. Stoick graduates with Summa Cum Laude honors with a Bachelor of Science Management degree and will be applying for her Washington State Bookkeeping Certification within six months. Sergeant Bistarkey graduates with Summa Cum Laude honors with a Bachelor of Science Management/Human Resources and he will be pursing an MBA with the University of Texas, Arlington. Sergeant Bistarkey belongs to the 368th Recruiting Squadron and is currently their Liaison Supervisor. - On-site and internet classes for Fall 1 begin Aug. 18. Registration begins July 21 for on-site classes. - Effective July 1, Park will no longer transfer History classes as Humanities credits. Instead, History credits will be given as Social Science credits. Call 244-2020 for information. - Park University offers a 15-credit-hour scholarship for non-military spouses and dependents of active-duty personnel. For more information call the Park University office at 244-2020. - Park University, Fairchild Campus Center will offer the Writing Competency Test June 17 and 24. Students should sign up at least two terms prior to taking EN306/CJ441/CJ450. A passing WCT score is a prerequisite to register for EN306/CJ441/CJ450 and a graduation requirement. The WCT results will not be available until at least three weeks after test date. Failure to comply with this requirement could delay graduation because the requirement will not be waived. Call the Fairchild Campus Center at 244-2020 to schedule an appointment to take the mandatory WCT. - Park's Online Learning program offers seven Bachelor of Science degree completion programs online and more than 250 internet courses (including General Education classes) each term.
