Fairchild Briefs Published July 1, 2008 FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The following is a list of upcoming Fairchild events and other pertinent 92nd Air Refueling Wing information. Upcoming Events: July 3: Airman Leadership School graduation The Airman Leadership School will be holding its graduation ceremony for the latest class of professional military education students from 6 - 9 p.m. July 3 at Club Fairchild. July 4: Independence Day celebration at Riverfront Park The city of Spokane is hosting a fireworks show and festival at Riverfront Park at 7 p.m. July 4 to commemorate Independence Day. The 92nd Air Refueling Wing Commander Col. Thomas Sharpy will give a speech; Staff Sgt. Connie Bias, 92nd ARW Public Affairs, will sing the national anthem; Fairchild's Honor Guard will present the colors; and a Fairchild KC-135 Stratotanker will perform a flyover. All Fairchild personnel and families are highly encouraged to attend. July 8: 92nd Aeromedical Dental Squadron change-of-command ceremony The 92nd Aeromedical Dental Squadron change-of-command ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. June 27 at Club Fairchild. July 12: Military Appreciation Night with the Spokane RiverHawks The Spokane RiverHawks baseball team is hosting a military appreciation night July 12. All fans with Military ID will receive a discounted $2 admission to the game. Non-military fans are invited to wear camouflage gear to the game to receive $2 admission, as well. Free American flag window clings will be given to the first 100 fans through the gate. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. July 12 at Avista Stadium. July 18: MatchUP base picnic at Miller Park Fairchild is hosting its annual picnic at Miller Park 12 - 4 p.m. July 18. The Warrior Dining Facility and the Fairchild Club will be closed for lunch; however, there will be free food, games and a number of fun activities at the picnic. Friends and family are welcome to attend. Ongoing Notifications: Wanted: Photos of deployed Fairchild Airmen The 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs office is collecting photos of deployed Airmen for use in a slideshow at an upcoming Commander's Call. If you have photos of your deployed colleagues in action, copy them to this folder: \\gjlkamcw3san1\Fairchild_AFB\Fairchild_All\Fairchild_Photos, and you may see your photo at the next Commander's Call. Thank you for your help! Miller Park Gazebo reservations Interested in barbequing at Miller Park? Make a reservation with Outdoor Recreation for a Gazebo May 1 - October 31. Gazebo use is free. Brazilian Jujitsu every first and third Tuesday Brazilian Jujitsu lessons are available at the Survival Fitness Center every first and third Tuesday of the month from 4:30 - 6 p.m. Classes are $20 monthly and are available to members and dependents of Fairchild age 16 and older. Headquarters Road and parking lot closure Headquarters Road and the parking lot behind the Wing Headquarters building are closed for construction. Parking is available at the old parade grounds on Bong Street. Access to the Headquarters Bldg. during construction will be the front and side doors. Upon completion of the project in late July, Headquarters Road will no longer connect to Mitchell Drive; it will only be used to access the new parking lot behind Wing HQ from SAC Blvd. Contact Mike Harper, 247-3108, if you have any questions. Public Health walk-in hours for pre-deployers In an effort to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the pre-deployment medical process, Public Health has established walk-in hours for medical processing of pre-deployers every Monday through Thursday from 7:30 - 11 a.m. Customers will continue to be seen outside of these hours Monday through Friday by appointment only. Appointments can be made in person or by calling 247-8486. Thrift Shop accepting consignments and donations The Thrift Shop is currently accepting consignments and donations for spring and summer clothing. Thrift Shop hours are: Mondays, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.; Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Call the Thrift Shop, 247-5913, for more information.
