National Night Out Published July 31, 2008 By Senior Airman Jocelyn A. Ford 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Aug. 5, 2007 a Sheriff Community Oriented Policing Effort office was opened on Fairchild, the first S.C.O.P.E. office to be opened on any Air Force base, marking a significant event for Fairchild and Air Force history. S.C.O.P.E. is not a program or law enforcement tactic, per say. S.C.O.P.E. is more of a community perspective. The mission is to increase involvement in community-oriented services and awareness of a partnership between local police departments and residents. Aug. 5 is also the night America will be celebrating the 25 annual National Night Out. National Night Out is an event supported by the Spokane and Spokane Valley Police Departments, as well as the 92nd Security Forces Squadron. The night is meant to heighten awareness on crime and drug prevention. "Strengthening neighborhood pride and spirit, the event builds stronger police-community partnerships and makes a statement that neighborhoods are organized and committed to fighting crime," said Tech. Sgt. Jeromy Frisk, 92nd SFS Neighborhood Watch coordinator. Residents are encouraged to come together and spend an evening outside getting to know their neighbors. Local law enforcement agencies are ready to attend the Neighborhood Watch parties on Aug. 5 to support the crime-fighting activities. Residents who wish to take initiative and organize a Neighborhood Watch party to celebrate National Night Out are encouraged to register their party at http://www.spokanesheriff.org/community/neighborhood.
