The following is a list of upcoming Fairchild events and other pertinent 92nd Air Refueling Wing information.

Upcoming Events:

Aug. 5: National Night Out
Neighborhoods throughout the country will celebrate National Night Out Aug. 5. National Night Out is intended to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; to generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts; to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships; and to send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighbors are organized and fighting back.

Fairchild residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and public safety officials. The 92nd Security Force Squadron, the fire department and the 92nd Medical Group personnel will convoy to registered block parties to hand out literature and answer questions. Aug. 5: Women's Self-Defense Clinic
A class on situational defense training, which includes rape prevention, striking techniques and escape maneuvers will be offered at the Fitness Center from 6 - 8 p.m. Aug. 5. Participants are encouraged to bring a male partner to help make the class more realistic. Be sure to wear something that is both conservative and durable. Aug. 9 - 10: Inland Northwest Skyfest 2008
Inland Northwest Skyfest 2008, Fairchild's free air show and open house, will be held Aug. 9-10. The Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps premier aerial demonstration team, are scheduled to perform. Other demonstration teams will include the F-22 Raptor, F-15C Eagle, C-17 Globemaster III and the KC-135 Stratotanker. The open house will also feature static displays of many contemporary and vintage aircraft. Gates will open at 9 a.m., with the air show scheduled from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. For details, see Skyfest 2008 Information.

Aug. 9 - 10: Childcare for qualifying military members during the airshow
Airmen on official duty during the airshow, who do not have a spouse to care for their children, will be provided childcare without charge through the Extended Duty Care program. For those working booths in support of private organizations and fundraising, charges will apply based on the individual provider's rates for child care. Further explanation and details can be provided by the family child care provider or staff at 247-4557.

Aug 9 - 10: 92nd Services closures during the airshow
The Arts and Crafts Center, Auto Hobby Center, Wood Craft Center, Engraving and Frame Shop, Outdoor Recreation Center, Sports Range, Club Fairchild, Funspot, Veterinary Clinic, Deel Community Center, Child Development Center, Youth Center, Teen and Pre-Teen Center and Library will be closed during Skyfest 2008 Aug. 9 - 10. Various other 92nd Services facilities will remain open during the airshow.

Aug. 15: Right Start briefing reschedule
Due to the upcoming airshow, the Right Start newcomer's orientation briefing scheduled for Aug. 8 has been rescheduled to 8 a.m. Aug. 15 at Club Fairchild. Please contact the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 247-2246 for any questions.

Aug. 16: Horseback Dinner Ride
Enjoy a horseback ride and dinner Aug. 16. FAN Club members pay $54; non-members pay $60. Transportation to and from the location is included in the cost of the trip. Call the Outdoor Recreation Center at 247-2511 to register.

Aug. 21: Texas Hold'em tournament at Club Fairchild
Join the Texas Hold'em tournament at Club Fairchild to meet new people and win prizes at 6 p.m. Aug 21. First, second and third place finishers will win gift card. The tournament is restricted adults only. FAN Club members pay $6; non-members pay $12.

Skyfest 2008 important traffic information
The Inland Northwest's Skyfest 2008 will be held Aug. 9 - 10 at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. The base will be open to the public 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. each day. During these two days the base populace can anticipate a very heavy traffic volume. Individuals participating in festivities as well as base housing residents are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid extended delays. Washington State Patrols will control traffic outside of Fairchild's gateways.

The on-base traffic plan may impact your access. To access other areas on base (to include housing, the Base Exchange, the Commissary, etc.) you must have a non-expired military identification card and valid base decal. Airmen will be posted at traffic control points to enforce the traffic plan.

The main gate will be the primary entry/exit for base personnel and visiting guests. Traffic exiting via the main gate will only be able to turn right onto Highway 2.

Graham Gate will be open to performers, handicapped individuals, recreational vehicles, media personnel, distinguished visitors and vendors. All traffic departing Graham Gate at Highway 2 must turn left. No vehicles with the exception of emergency vehicles and personnel residing in houses between the two gates departing Graham Gate will be allowed to turn right.

The Rambo Road Gate is open only to emergency vehicles.

Thorpe Road and Rambo Gate will remain open only for emergency vehicles and personnel working/residing on the 336th Training Group side of the base.

Yoga class at the Family Oasis
There will be a free yoga class offered at the Family Oasis every Wednesday at 7 p.m. starting Aug. 6. All skill levels are welcome to attend. For more information call the Deel Community Center at 247-2619.

FAN Club membership drive
The 92nd Services FAN Club is seeking new members. Sign up through Oct. 15 and pay no dues for the first six months. One-thousand dollars will be given to the squadron with the greatest number of sign-ups; squadrons with the highest percentage of members participating in the FAN Club will also win $1,000; plus, new members will be entered into a $1,000 dollar drawing and a $100 scratch ticket. New members have a choice between a MasterCard and Proprietary Card - MasterCard members earn two percent cash back on all purchases. For more information call Club Fairchild at 244-3622.

Airman and Family Readiness Center position
The Airman and Family Readiness Center is seeking a motivated non-commissioned officer in the grade of technical sergeant to fill a readiness position by Oct 1. The applicant must have at least 24 months remaining at Fairchild. Desirable skills include the following: demonstrated work with family readiness and quality of life issues, have been a resource advisor and/or have supply background and be competent in computer skills. Anyone interested should submit the following information to the A&FRC on or before Aug. 21:

· Military Resume
· Copy of last five EPR's
· Letter of Recommendation from current Squadron Commander

Fairchild Golf Driving Range is open
The Fairchild Golf Driving Range is open for use. The Driving Range is located at the Sports Range at 109 Sport Range Road. For more information call 247-5973.

Miller Park Gazebo reservations
Interested in barbequing at Miller Park? Make a reservation with Outdoor Recreation for a Gazebo May 1 - October 31. Gazebo use is free. For more information call 247-2511.

Flight Chief needed for ALS
Airman Leadership School is accepting flight chief applications. The flight chief is responsible for all aspects of operations; implementing policies, programs and procedures; and providing leadership, guidance and direction to the faculty support staff and students. The flight chief also supervises and/or evaluates a faculty of five, and is responsible for training the faculty. He or she interfaces with Air Force and civic organizations to enhance support for enlisted professional military education, recruits and selects faculty; manages all resource programs: manpower, money, equipment and facilities; and plans, manages, and hosts graduation ceremonies. Fairchild Swim Teams
Be a part of one of the two Fairchild Swim Teams. Practices are held at the indoor pool; all levels of experience are welcome and swim all year round. There is the Aqua Aviators Novice Swim Team novice swim team which meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4 - 5 p.m. Participants are 18 years and under. Cost per month is $25. The Masters Swim Team meets Monday and Wednesday from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Participants are over the age of 18, and is free of charge. Monthly swim meets are held if you are interested in participating. Brazilian Jujitsu every first and third Tuesday
Brazilian Jujitsu lessons are available at the Survival Fitness Center every first and third Tuesday of the month from 4:30 - 6 p.m. Classes are $20 monthly and are available to members and dependents of Fairchild age 16 and older. Public Health walk-in hours for pre-deployers
In an effort to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the pre-deployment medical process, Public Health has established walk-in hours for medical processing of pre-deployers every Monday through Thursday from 7:30 - 11 a.m. Customers will continue to be seen outside of these hours Monday through Friday by appointment only. Appointments can be made in person or by calling 247-8486.

Thrift Shop accepting consignments and donations
The Thrift Shop is currently accepting consignments and donations for spring and summer clothing. Thrift Shop hours are: Mondays, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.; Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Call the Thrift Shop, 247-5913, for more information.

Attention all Fairchild communication systems users
The use of government communication systems such as, but not limited to, telephones, fax machines, computers, computer networks (including internet access), cellular phones, PDAs, Blackberrys and hand-held radios constitutes consent to monitoring. Education Briefs:

Fatigue countermeasures course
The aerospace physiology training flight, in conjunction with the flight medicine clinic, will be offering a one-hour course on fatigue countermeasures for first line supervisors. The course will take place at the aerospace physiology training facility in building 2001B, South Olympia Street between 9 - 10 a.m. Aug. 7. It will provide up-to-date information on the signs of fatigue, the science of sleep and how to mitigate fatigue-related mistakes/mishaps, with the goal of improving human performance and mission effectiveness.

Study Skills Class
This seminar is designed for those returning to school after a long absence. The primary focus is to introduce students to time-management skills. Other modules include memory, reading for comprehension and test-taking tips. Students will also assess their learning styles, establish goals and make a study calendar. Classes are scheduled Aug. 13 and Sept. 10. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Registration for the Fall semester has started. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offers Bachelor and Masters Degree programs and an AMT Type 65 certificate for those seeking an FAA Airframe and Powerplant license. Courses may be completed either in class or worldwide through distance learning.

Park University
The online learning environment at Park allows students to go to class when and where their schedules permit. Commuting time disappears; childcare issues dissipate; and travel conflicts no longer matter cause a hassle. - On-site and internet classes for Fall I begin Aug. 18. Registration has begun for on-site classes.

Leadership Skills Class
Develop your leadership skills through Force Development Education courses offered free of charge every month at the Base Education Center. FDE offers an opportunity for your personal growth with courses in career management, effective communication, productive relationships, giving effective feedback, understanding leadership growth and developing cooperative learning in training programs in the workplace. The class is open to all military and civilian personnel; however, some courses are limited to certain ranks/grades.

Listening Skills - Involves the essentials of listening skills, saving time and resources, and avoiding challenges by using better communication skills. The primary focus of study skills is to introduce individuals to time management awareness to help balance the demands of school and working life. Other modules include memory, reading for comprehension and test taking tips. In this course the student will assess their learning style, make a study calendar and establish goals. Classes are scheduled Aug. 13 and Sep. 10. They will be held at the Base Education Center in Room 105 from 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with lunch from noon - 1 p.m.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale
Southern Illinois University Carbondale has an accelerated format degree in which the major can be completed in as little as one year. The degree is accomplished on an alternating weekend schedule that takes up about one - two weekends per month. Classes begin Aug. 23. Some of the benefits of this program include:

 No Associate degree required to begin the program.
 Up to 44 semester hours granted for individual work experience and technical training (equivalent to about 15 college courses).
 Only 14 SIUC General Education courses required - you may already have some of these completed.
 Civilians are welcome to attend, as well - full financial assistance is available to qualified students.
 Earn a Bachelor of Science degree In Workforce Education & Development

Fall classes start Aug. 11 Fairchild Fall I Term registration has begun. We are offering General Education Classes. Spokane Falls Community College ITV classes start Sept. 22. Register early to ensure class availability. To schedule an advising appointment with a counselor or to ask questions, please call 533-8937. Credit classes are offered by the Institute for Extended Learning and are accredited through and follow the curriculum adopted by and standards established by SFCC.
