Sammy Rabbit visits Fairchild Published Sept. 18, 2008 By Senior Airman Jocelyn A. Ford 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- "From every dollar save a dime," is one of Sammy Rabbit's main messages. Sammy is a character produced by the "It's A Habit!" Company, whose mission is to provide educational and entertaining tools across the globe that encourage good habits, especially the good habit of saving money. The Air Force Aid Society, with help from Global Credit Union and Armed Forces Bank, has funded the trip for Sammy Rabbit and Sam X Renick, founder and CEO of IAHC, to come to Fairchild Sept. 23. During their stay here, they will visit Michael Anderson Elementary School and provide a one-hour performance for the children, and walk through the Child Development Center. The program has proven that children as young as age 4 can begin to understand the importance of saving, and Fairchild's educational leaders strongly support the "It's a Habit!" goals. Cheryl Stitt, Michael Anderson school counselor, said she is "excited to have our kids learn about money and savings. It's definitely a message the children need to hear." IAHC bases its program on financial values, beginning with a push to start kids early on the road to financial success. The educators at IAHC also know, however, that a one-time experience isn't enough; parents, teachers and other influencers are vital to children's financial education. To target such influencers, not only are there going to be workbooks available to the children through the school, but the AFAS has made it possible for each child to receive a "Mission 1: Celebrate Saving!" compact disk as well as an "It's a Habit Sammy Rabbit!" story book to bring home. "Putting something in the children's hand is like candy," said Mandi Poindexter, principal of Michael Anderson Elementary School. "Giving them something to take home just gets the children more excited about the experience." IAHC efforts have one objective in mind as published on their Website, and that is to "make the American dream accessible to kids no matter who they are," and doing this by living by their slogan "Changing lives on habit and dime at a time!"
