Recently, a historic event took place in the Club Fairchild Ballroom when the 92nd Mission Support Squadron merged with the 92nd Services Squadron to become the Air Force's newest Force Support Squadron.

Lt. Col. David Ellison, 92nd Services Squadron commander, relinquished command and Maj. Jason Knight, 92nd Mission Support Squadron commander assumed command of the newly formed squadron. The ceremony marked the actualization of an ongoing Air Force initiative to apply synergies, efficiencies and unity of command as the Air Force moves forward.

Maj. Knight is now the commander of a squadron with over 600 personnel dedicated to the support and service of Team Fairchild and the accomplishment of the 92nd Air Refueling Wing mission. A career personnel officer, Maj. Knight received his commission in 1994 after graduating from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communication. He has served in a variety of base-level and major command positions including Squadron Section Commander, Deputy Chief of USAFE Protocol, Chief of Air Mobility Command Rated Staff Assignments and Military Personnel Flight Commander. He has also deployed to Saudi Arabia, Bosnia, and most recently Kabul, Afghanistan.

While the merger is truly a monumental undertaking, the impact to our valued customers is relatively transparent. Most of what you have come to expect from the Services and Mission Support Squadrons will remain the same. Traditional Services (Club, Lodging, Fitness, CDC, etc.) and Mission Support (Civilian and Military Personnel, Airman & Family Readiness Center, Education Center, etc.) activities are now under one command structure, creating a one-stop shop for the members of Team Fairchild.

While the office symbols and organizational chart may change, the squadron's commitment to serving the men and women of Team Fairchild has grown even stronger after the merger. The 92nd Force Support Squadron is a more agile organization focused on customer service, community support and quality of life at Fairchild Air Force Base.
