March Madness hits the Air Force Published Jan. 29, 2009 FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The excitement of the National College Athletics Association Final Four Basketball Tournament hits bases around the world as people vie for top spots in the Air Force's March Madness online bracket tournament promotion. Beginning Feb. 13 game pieces can be picked up at the FunSpot (no purchase required) and register online using the code on the game piece. Then on March 15 tournament bracket selections can be filled in. Up to 10 brackets may be played. Picks can be made and changed, but final picks for all rounds must be submitted by 6 a.m. EST, March 19. Participants must be 18 years or older. "In addition to competing in the online tournament, folks should stop by the FunSpot, it's a great place to watch the games," said Fred McKenney, Chief, Air Force Food and Beverage Division. "Throughout the tournament, you can find some fantastic specials at the Funspot." Picking the winning team in each game of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament accumulates points. The tournament is single elimination, only the winning team advances to the next round. The competition begins with 64 teams - half are eliminated during each round. The first place prize is a trip for four to the 2010 Final Four Game for three days and two nights in a hotel. The winner will receive free air travel, car rental, game tickets and $1,000 spending cash sponsored by Coca Cola. The second place winner will receive $5,000; third place receives $2,500; and fourth place will get $1,000.Five subsequent winners will win a Coca Cola NCAA Pop-A-Shot arcade home-style basketball game. "Every year basketball fans wait for the tradition, the excitement and the upsets that accompany the NCAA tournament," said Frank Black, Chief of the Community Programs Division.
