Emergency Financial Assistance Published Nov. 12, 2009 FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- THE AIR FORCE AID SOCIETY The Air Force Aid Society is the official charity of the U.S. Air Force. It promotes the Air Force mission by helping "to relieve distress of Air Force members and their families and assisting them to finance their education". The Air Force Aid Society, since its creation in 1942 as a non‐profit organization, has helped countless members of the Air Force community. Loans and Grants Emergency assistance can be given as an interest free loan, a grant, or a combination of both. · The majority of AFAS assistance is provided in the form of interest free loans with repayment of these loans helping to fund future assistance. · Grant assistance should be fair and equitable and not be provided simply because an individual has a deficit and cannot repay a loan. · Emergency assistance is obtained by applying at the Airman and Family Readiness Center on Fairchild AFB. Falcon Loan Program The Falcon Loan Program allows Air Force members to receive emergency financial assistance in a more streamlined process. Its purpose is to keep Airmen from obtaining payday loans. The Falcon Loan is an interest free loan of $500 or less that can be used for emergency needs such as basic living expenses (rent, utilities, and food), car repairs, emergency travel, or other approved needs. The streamlined application process for a Falcon Loan requires no budget information, backup documentation, or First Sergeant/Commander approval. To be eligible for a Falcon Loan, one must be an Active Duty Air Force member or spouse with Power of Attorney stationed at an Air Force base with an Airman and Family Readiness Center. Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard personnel activated on Title 10 orders at the time of application are eligible for a Falcon Loan. THE AMERICAN RED CROSS The American Red Cross works under partnership agreements with the Air Force Aid Society, Army Emergency Relief, Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society to provide quality, reliable financial assistance to eligible applicants 24/7/365. In cases where emergency assistance is needed after hours or on weekends, the Red Cross will provide emergency financial assistance.
