Ladies and Gentlemen of Washington State Veterans Cemetery

The mission of the Ladies and Gentlemen is to provide representation and to extend sympathy on behalf of the military family, to the next-of-kin at the committal services for those men and women who have served in the United States Military and are buried in Washington State Veterans Cemetery.
The vital part of this program is to have dependable volunteers for each weekday of the month. We are asking volunteers to commit to only one day of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th week of the month. Services will be held between 9 AM to 3 PM.

Your responsibilities if you are a Lady
- Write a personal note to the family of the deceased on the card provided
-Include in the envelope the words to TAPS which we will have printed on a card
- You will be escorted by a Gentleman who is a Veteran
-You will place your hand over your heart when the Veteran salutes
-Speak to the next-of-kin and hand them the envelope with the cards inside

Your responsibilities if you are a Gentleman
- Escort the lady on your arm to the cemetery vehicle and drive to committal building
- Escort her into the committal building
- Lead the salute between the two of you
- Escort her over to the person who received the flag, standing by her side as she speaks to them
- Escort her back to your positions until the ceremony is concluded
- Escort her to the vehicle and drive her back to the administration building

Dress Code: clothing suitable to weather conditions
- For ladies: Dress or slacks and a modest blouse. No bright colors. A hat is not required but may be worn, but nothing flashy
-For the gentleman: Suit or blazer and tie. Active duty may choose to wear Class A uniform

There will be orientation sessions at the cemetery's temporary office 14124 W. Highway 2, Medical Lake Q & A sessions will be held on the first Thursday of the month starting in November 2009 and run through March 2010 at 2 PM. Currently our requirements are that you be a veteran, a spouse of a veteran or a surviving spouse of a veteran.
