With the Christmas holiday fast approaching, it can be difficult for many Airmen who live in the dorms and are still adapting to being away from their families.
The Fairchild Officer's Spouses Club, along with the Enlisted Spouses Club, held their fourth annual Operation Cookie Drop program where base residents and community members donate homemade cookies to be hand delivered to squadrons and Airmen in the dorms.
Monday morning, OSC advocates, along with the help of the Spokane Lilac Festival's Fab 14, gathered at the base chapel and bagged cookies for Operation Cookie Drop so their goal could be fulfilled.
"This is truly a program that shows people care," said Myron Bursell, who is in charge of the Spokane Lilac Festival's Fab 14. "The Fab 14 and I appreciate the time and effort young Airmen put into completing their everyday mission and this is a small way of us thanking them."
The advocates gathered nearly 11,000 cookies for squadrons, dropped them off at the wing and Survival Evasion Resistance Escape dorms and also sent off hundreds of cookies to Airmen who are deployed to Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan.
"As Airmen, we look at programs like this as an assist to us being in the dorms," said Airman Tia Rivers, 92nd Force Support Squadron. "Not being able to see my family for the holidays is a challenge, but when I see people doing things like this for us, I learn - this is my family away from home."
The OSC received donations for operation cookie drop from Balfour Beatty and honorary commanders.
"With all of the support and donations for the program, I knew that this would be another successful cookie drop," said Vicky Giovenco, vice president of charitable, OSC. "People were still bringing in cookies after we had already dropped off dozens of cookies to Airmen in the dorms and squadrons around base. It's important we show we care about our Airmen -- which we did."
