Fairchild's Finest: Staff Sgt. Michael Stanforth Published Jan. 15, 2013 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Name: Staff Sgt. Michael Stanforth Unit: 912th Air Refueling Squadron Duty title: Aircrew Flight Equipment Journeymen What do you do on a daily basis at March Air Reserve Base? While geographically separated at March ARB California, I guarantee the proper loading and operability of all aircrew survival equipment (i.e. parachutes, CSEL communication systems, water survival assets and flightline operations) for the largest TFI/Wing in AFRC. What do you enjoy about your job? The gratification that all equipment is utilized to save Airmen's lives and it is my responsibility to safeguard the Air Force's most prized assets. Why did you choose to serve in the military? My family has a tradition of military service and I wanted to do something more important than just serving myself; the United States. What is your greatest accomplishment? Marrying the love of my life, having my daughter and being promoted to Staff Sergeant. What goals do you want to achieve or meet while at March Air Reserve Base? I want to progress through the ranks in my AFSC, expand my breadth of experience outside my career field, and complete my CCAF Fabrication Parachute Degree. What is your favorite quote? "Never give up!" Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her? My mother, Anita Schaeffer. I learned to always persevere in critical situations and not forget to smile because it is not always about you. If you could spend one hour with any person, who would it be and why? My grandfather, Allen Hewitt. Due to the fact that he passed away when I was young and also served in the military. I would ask him for mentorship, leadership and family perspectives.
