Fairchild hosts a live mixed martial arts event at the Funspot, March 9.

The event is open to all members of Fairchild. Tickets will only be available during the pre-fight party outside the Funspot from 5-7 p.m. and costs $15 for buffet and fight, or $7 for the fight only. The fight starts at 7 p.m. The Funspot will only be open to fight patrons the night of the event.

"We are putting a lot of effort into this kind of event because we know it is important for people to come out and have fun and it raises the morale of Fairchild members," said Sueanne Herkel, marketing director for the 92nd Force Support Squadron.

Cody McKenzie, a featherweight-division fighter, is a local Ultimate Fighter Championship combatant who trains in Spokane and known for his guillotine choke, is fighting the night of the event. He began his professional MMA career in 2007. He was part of the reality show "The Ultimate Fighter" and was coached by UFC fighter Georges St-Pierre. McKenzie stands with a record of 13 wins and three losses.

"I watched my first MMA event my sophomore year of high school and that's when I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life," said McKenzie.
