FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. --  The 92nd and 141st Air Refueling Wing Safety offices continue to work together ensuring the safety of Team Fairchild. Their main goal is mishap prevention and this is made possible by holding events to keep Team Fairchild informed.

Aside from the daily routine the safety office is always planning ahead to help prevent mishaps before they occur. Safety will be hosting the upcoming June 26th "Street Smart" event and the June 28th Motorcycle Safety Day.

A new program the safety office is starting is the "Anonymous Safety Can" program. These are literally ammo cans on poles, modified to take suggestions with pen and paper provide on the box. Members of Team Fairchild can anonymously comment their concerns on anything they feel is unsafe or could be improved. The cans will be placed around the base at various locations.

"It's to give people the opportunity to voice safety concerns they wouldn't otherwise feel comfortable going to their supervisor for," said Master Sgt. Neil Weaver, 92nd Air Refueling Wing weapons safety manager.

The upcoming Street Smart program is dedicated to reducing injuries and fatalities due to drinking and driving and non-compliance with seatbelts. It is presented by Stay Alive From Education. S.A.F.E. is an organization created by firefighters and paramedics from Florida. This event takes the audience into real-life situations firefighters and paramedics encounter as they work to save the lives of those who have made poor decisions.

"It's very interactive, they do demonstrations and they make it fun," said Master Sgt. Joel Jones, 92nd Air Refueling Wing flight safety superintendent. "They have a good reputation and a great program."

With having lost twelve Airmen to motorcycle fatalities this year alone and four Airmen losing appendages, motorcycle safety is something to take very serious. The Wing Safety office is holding Motorcycle Safety Day on June 28th. Multiple events will be going on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Riders will learn numerous skills they can apply when riding to help them stay safe.

"The main focus is refreshing skills, teaching rider's blind spot awareness and promoting motorcycle awareness to 4-wheel vehicle operators," said Master Sgt. Michael Marshall, 92nd Air Refueling Wing ground safety.
