Air Mobility Command announced Fairchild Air Force Base as their 2019 Commander-in-Chief’s Installation Excellence Award nominee, the first time ever the base has received the nomination.

Fairchild also earned “Honorable Mention” accolades at the Air Force-level competition and finished in the top four of all Air Force installations world-wide over the past year.

The CINC IEA, established in 1985 by former President Ronald Reagan, recognizes the outstanding and innovative efforts of those who maintain and operate U.S. military installations.

Fairchild was awarded the nomination following a successful year of executing combat air refueling missions around the globe while tackling several large-scale events, to include hosting the Inland Northwest Skyfest Airshow and Mobility Guardian ‘19, AMC’s largest mobility exercise.

“This was a fantastic year for Team Fairchild,” said Col. Derek Salmi, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. “I am exceptionally humbled and proud to serve with such an outstanding team, to include our extraordinary mission partners with the 141 ARW and the 336 TRG.  Collectively our Airmen, with the incredible support of their families, drove the successful execution of significant operations and historic milestones for the installation. Through teamwork and innovative thinking we cemented our standing as the best in Air Mobility Command this past year.”

Team Fairchild Airmen also led the way with innovative programs to include the Inland Spark Tank Pitch Competition to capture new ideas and practices, Conditions Based Maintenance Plus to enhance maintenance reliability, and Emotional Intelligence courses to better develop Airmen. Through creative approaches, Fairchild AFB saved taxpayers more than $615,000 this past year alone.

Additionally operations, maintenance, mission support, medical and other staff agencies supported 58,000 requirements to advance theater objectives across seven combatant commands. These efforts resulted in 30 first-place AMC and Air Force-level award wins.

Team Fairchild also launched the Green in ’19 campaign, posturing the base to realize its vision of becoming the Department of Defense leader in environmentally-conscious efforts. This, in turn, has led to more than 50 new energy-friendly initiatives and shaped the culture for future success.

The commander attributes much of the base’s success to the tremendous support of the Inland Northwest community.

“The Spokane-area community is simply a phenomenal partner to Team Fairchild,” Salmi said. “Our Airmen can only perform consistently at the high levels that they do because of how welcoming and supportive Spokane and Eastern Washington is to our mission, Airmen and families.”

Winning AMC’s Commander-in-Chief’s Installation Excellence Award nomination is just one of many indications of how hard Team Fairchild Airmen work to enable Rapid Global Mobility around the world. “Fames Favored Few” will build on their momentum to make 2020 their best yet.
