Charles A. Lindbergh, a captain in the Missouri National Guard’s 110th Observation Squadron, completed the first solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean in the Spirit of St. Louis in 1927.

Five years later, Amelia Earhart was the first woman to complete a solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean.

May 25

In 1980, Mount St. Helens erupted for the second time. Unlike the first time, the wing was prepared and aircraft deployed to northern California Strategic Air Command bases.

May 27

The F-4 Phantom II made its first flight in 1958. The aircraft, first flown by the U.S. Navy, was later adopted by the Air Force in 1963. The aircraft holds 15 aviation world records.
