Fish Lake Fire from the hill

The Fish Lake Fire near Cheney, Wash., June 17, 2015, is seen from a nearby hill. Firefighters from Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash., assisted other area firefighters saving homes and their inhabitants from the 145-acre brush fire. More than 100,000 wildfires burn an average of four to five million acres of land nationwide each year and have burned up to nine million acres in recent years. There are three conditions required for a wildfire to burn including fuel, oxygen and a heat source. Lightning, hot winds, fireworks and even the sun can all provide sufficient heat to spark a fire.
