General Duncan J. McNabb visited here to get a first-hand look at how Team Fairchild completes its mission.
The general, who leads Air Mobility Command, was accompanied by his wife, Linda, and the AMC command chief, Chief Master Sgt. Joseph E. Barron, Jr. They arrived Monday and departed Wednesday.
During his visit, General McNabb stopped at various facilities on and off base, including the Airmen's Expeditionary Center of Excellence, the 141st Air Refueling Wing, which is the Air National Guard tenant unit here, the Warrior Dining Facility and even the Spokane Convention Center for a social event.
The event, held on the convention center rooftop, was attended by more than 120 local civic and community leaders.
During the event, General McNabb was given the key to the city of Spokane, by Mayor Dennis Hession.
The general's visit culminated with a commander's call in Hangar 2050, in which he addressed various issues to hundreds of the Airmen who make up Team Fairchild.
The call began with his presentation of Bronze Star Medals to three 92nd ARW Airmen: Senior Airman Amos Smith, 92nd Civil Engineer Squadron; Maj. Randolph Stenzel, 92nd Logistics Readiness Squadron; and Lt. Col. Matthew Mangan, 92nd Maintenance Squadron.
The general commented on the recipients' heroics that led to their earning the medal, which is awarded for meritorious service while working with the U.S. Army.
He then turned his attention to Team Fairchild's contribution to the Global War on Terrorism.
"This is a war of hope over despair, freedom over tyranny," he said. "The courage you are showing is breathtaking, and what you are doing during the Global War on Terrorism is absolutely noble.
"It is an honor to come out to see the base, and tell your story," said General McNabb. "It is great to see you all and view your tremendous accomplishments."
He reminded the crowd that "Air power is all about precision", and that time is the most important resource, which is why Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century is vital to today's Air Force.
The general rounded out his commander's call by thanking the wing for its contributions to the nation, saying the 92nd ARW's contributions to the nation are beyond measure.
