Fairchild Air Force Base firefighters responded with other regional firefighters to a hazardous materials spill incident where they performed decontamination, mitigation and rehabilitation support near the Washington-Idaho state line Sept. 14, 2014. Four Fairchild Air Force Base firefighters, one technician and a variety of support staff as well as the base’s mobile decontamination and rehabilitation unit joined two dozen other firefighters, trucks and equipment from Spokane regional fire districts in response to a tanker truck leaking anhydrous trimethylamine. The incident prompted emergency responders to shut down a 6-mile section of Interstate 90. The toxic leaked substance is a flammable material used in making solvents, animal feed supplements and products consumed by the paper, oil and gas industries. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt.
