A plunge to safety

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. – Airman 1st Class Steven Valentine, 92nd Operations Squadron air traffic controller, simulates use of the “crash phone” to notify the base fire department that assistance is needed to conduct an emergency evacuation of the air traffic control tower. When no other option is available, the tower crew must use the Baker’s Life Chute to slide to safety. (U.S. Air Force photo / Airman 1st Class Kali L. Gradishar)
