FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. --

Name: Senior Airman John Havens

Unit: 92nd Contracting Squadron

Duty title: Contract Specialist

What do you do on a daily basis at Fairchild Air Force Base? I write contracts and supporting documentation in accordance with government regulations.

What do you enjoy about your job? Going on "site visits" which enable me to find out more about the product or service I am acquiring. These visits are important because if the Contract Specialist has a better understanding of the requirement the purchase will be easier to justify.

Why did you choose to serve in the military? The economy in Eugene was not favorable at the time. I knew of the stability and benefits that are available in the Air Force.

What is your greatest accomplishment? I guess that would be delivering my second boy Oliver at home. He came fast and even though that was unexpected we adapted.

What goals you want to achieve or meet while at Fairchild Air Force Base?  I would like to make Staff Sgt., cross train into cyber defense, and get a few certifications along the way.

What is your favorite quote?  "They've done studies you know, 60% of the time it works every time..."

Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her?  (Ret.) Lt Col David Albright, (this is not a direct quote) wherever you work, whatever the job, take the responsibility of your supervisor and you will move up.

If you could spend one hour with any person, who would it be and why?  Nikola Tesla, I think even if he didn't talk to me he would at least be fun to watch.
