FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. --
Rank / Name: Airman 1st Class Jin Chang

Unit of assignment: 92nd Force Support Squadron

Duty title: Storeroom Technician

Home town and state: Charlotte, North Carolina

What do you do on a daily basis at Fairchild AFB?
I work at the Warrior Mission Essential Feeding Facility as the storeroom technician.  I am responsible for the ordering and receiving of all food products as well as ensuring the quality of our items.

What do you enjoy about your job?
I've always had an interest in business management and as the storeroom technician, myself and the NCO in charge of the storeroom, Staff Sgt. Amanda Hudson, are responsible for the budget and inventory of our dining facility.  I enjoy learning about the process by which our budget is made, and staying under or within our allotted percentage is key to my success.

Family?
My mother, father, and two brothers:  Joan Chang, Bong Chang, JinWoo and JinSung Chang.

How long have you been in the military?
One year

What is your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment will have to be when I was 12 years old and my baseball team was playing in the Amateur Athletic Union Nationals in Sarasota, Fla. We had lost every game in the tournament so far and in our final game before we packed up and went home I was able to pitch a no hitter.  It's a memory that I will cherish and remember for the rest of my life.

What goals do you want to achieve or meet while at Fairchild AFB?
My goals are to work harder than anyone here in my profession and improve my fitness levels to where I can ultimately be prepared and ready for the challenge to become a SERE specialist.

What are your hobbies?
My hobbies are working out and going on hikes.  I also enjoy playing softball for our squadron and disc golf.

What is your best habit?
My work ethic is my best habit.  I hate the feeling of not accomplishing my goals, whether I am working by myself or as a team.

What is your favorite quote?
"I've failed over and over and over again in my life...that is why I SUCCEED." - Michael Jordan

What are your favorite movies?
"American Sniper," "Reservoir Dogs" and "The Departed"

Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her?
My favorite mentor would be my eldest brother Jin Woo Chang. I have looked up to him for as long as I remember. He played baseball; I wanted to play baseball. He played football; I wanted to play football.  He taught me how to become a leader by example and I will always be grateful for that.

If you could spend one hour with any person, who would it be and why?
Kobe Bryant - He is the Michael Jordan of my era.  He has the tenacity to win and be the leader of not only his team but a generation of people who have to fight and put everything they have into something to become successful.

What Airmen 1st Class Chang's leadership are saying:
"A1C Chang is a relatively new Airman, but he hit the ground running.  He wasted no time in proving himself as an intelligent, dedicated, and motivated member of the team, approaching every new responsibility with cheery willingness and professionalism.  Even at this early stage in his career, A1C Chang is serving as an excellent role model for his peers," said 1st Lt. Elisabeth S. Ward, 92nd FSS food service officer.
