Skyfest 2006, Fairchild’s air show and open house, is only six weeks away.
The annual free event, scheduled for July 29-30, is expected to draw over 100,000 people from all over the Pacific Northwest.
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the Air Force’s premier flight demonstration team, is slated to be the main act, said Maj. Carol Gering, 92nd Air Refueling Wing chief of public affairs.
“We’re really excited that the Thunderbirds are coming,” said Major Gering. “They always put on a good show, they’re a crowd pleaser. They do all kinds of cool acrobatics.”
The Thunderbirds fly the F-16C, a premier fighter jet in the Air Force.
Gates will open at 9 a.m. both days and will feature a variety of aerial acts performed by both military and civilian aircraft.
The Thunderbirds will be performing both days.
Other shows will include demonstrations by an F-117 Nighthawk, F-15 Eagle, the P-51 Mustang Heritage Flight, the Canadian Skyhawks parachute team, an A-10, the Cascade Warbird Squadron, a MiG-17, MK-3 Jet Provost and many more.
Jacquie Warda of Spokane will be performing in her Pitts Special biplane.
Many static aircraft will also be available on the ground for public photo opportunities.
People of all ages will have opportunities to get close to the latest Air Force aircraft
Concessions will be available as well as souvenirs and some squadron memorabilia. Show organizers recommend bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, a wide-brim hat and lawn chair.
There is also scheduled to be a headlining music act, which will be announced later.
